Training Options

Host a Training Workshop

Training Workshops are commonly hosted by:

  • a university
  • a chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association
  • an aging services provider

They are at least 4 hours in duration, and are commonly offered as pre- or post- conference intensives.

We have done trainings as part of conferences in many fields including Storytelling, Activity Directors, Recreational Therapists, Alzheimer’s Association chapters, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers, Family Caregiving Support networks, and Faith-based organizations. Several trainings have been broadcast to remote sites to reach more isolated audiences of care providers.

Hosts of the training provide all local arrangements and pay for all services including a trainer fee, trainer travel/lodging, and supply costs for each participant. Hosts handle promotion and registration. To support these costs, Hosts keep all registration fees, which tend to range from $45 to $75. It is our experience that registration fees cover all costs for the training.

What People Say About TimeSlips Trainings

We have been gathering evaluations of our trainings since 1998. Contact us for a synopsis of our evaluations or for a list of references of training hosts who can tell you more about the experience.

Embed TimeSlips in your Facility

TimeSlips can be used to model the following in your facility:

  • team building
  • communication skills
  • person-centered care
  • meaningful activities
  • outreach to the community

We can custom design an on-site training to embed TimeSlips in your facility. This type of training has a greater chance of taking hold and staying effective for a longer period of time.

It is possible to create an “In-House” Training Base in your facility. This means we would certify one of your staff members as a TimeSlips Trainer. This In-House Trainer could then certify others in your facility in the method.

Model A: 10 week on-site training (commonly done in NY, Milwaukee, and NC)
  • Pre-training: The TS trainer meets with administration and staff to clarify the training process and to plan the final celebration.
  • Week 1: A TS Intensive Training Workshop for all staff to be trained (this can also be opened to the public to defray costs).
  • Weeks 2 & 3: Trainer models TS sessions with your residents
  • Weeks 4 & 5: Your facilitator teams begin to lead the sessions with the TS trainer participating.
  • Week 6: The TS Trainer meets with all trainees to discuss progress (no storytelling session).
  • Weeks 7 & 9: The trainees lead the TS sessions with the Trainer observing
  • Week 10: A celebration of the stories. This is designed by the trainees with the Trainer offering suggestions.
Model B: 10 week on-site training with consulting (currently being arranged in IA)
  • This follows Model A, but adds email correspondence with trainees to answer questions and respond to “homework” which involves simple journal entries about the training process. We highly recommend this model.
Model C: Intensive Training and Consulting Pre-training: TS trainer meets with administration and staff to clarify the training process and plan final celebration.
  • Week 1: TS Intensive Training Workshops for all staff to be trained (this can also be opened to the public to defray costs). This is hosted on-site and includes a demonstration of the method with your residents and staff.
  • Following weeks: As needed visits and contact via email or phone to support the staff as they implement the method.

For any questions on hosting a Training Workshop, don’t hesitate to contact your regional base or the national base.
